The margin type decides how far a loss can reach. On isolated margin a position's loss stops at its own margin. On cross margin your whole futures balance stands behind every position, so one bad trade can draw on money meant for the others.
Examples
/setMarginType ISOLATED
Margin type updated to ISOLATED.
Send it alone and the bot lists the options:

/myMarginType

|---|---|
| ISOLATED | Each position has its own margin; a loss on it cannot take more than that margin. Starting value. |
| CROSSED | Your whole futures balance backs every position. |
Questions
Which should I choose?
Isolated keeps each trade's worst case to its margin, which makes /summary's numbers easy to trust. Cross can keep a position open longer in a drawdown, but its loss can exceed the position's margin. On isolated margin the bot also refuses a stop-loss that liquidation would always reach first.
Binance says my account only allows cross margin. Why?
Your futures account is in Multi-Assets mode, which allows only cross margin. Send /setMarginType CROSSED, or switch Binance Futures to Single-Asset mode. See multi-assets mode.
Does the change apply to coins I already hold?
A coin you already hold keeps its margin type until that position closes; new positions use the new setting.

Related commands
- /setLeverage/setLeverage sets how many times your margin goes into each position, from 1x to 20x, 2x by default; higher leverage leaves a smaller move before Binance liquidates, roughly 100% divided by the leverage.
- /setStopLoss/setStopLoss sets how far the price may move against an entry before the bot closes it, as a percent of price from 0 to 90, 35 by default; 0 means no stop, and the stop must be closer than your liquidation price.
- /summary/summary shows every auto-trading setting with the command that changes it, and what your settings put at risk in USDT: margin per trade, position size at your leverage, margin in use and the loss at your stop.
