What is Ethereum Name Service (ENS)?

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) was released by the Ethereum Foundation on May 4, 2017. The project was developed by New Zealand software engineer Nick Johnson. Created by the Ethereum Foundation, the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) continued to operate as a separate organization in 2018. Ethereum Name Service (ENS); It aims to provide users with easier access to the Ethereum-based network.

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a distributed, open and extensible naming system based on the Ethereum blockchain. Hard-to-read addresses are translated in a way that is easier to read and understand. Ethereum Name Service is based on the Ethereum blockchain and its native token is ENS. ENS transforms machine-read alphanumeric Ethereum addresses in wallets into a form that can be read by anyone. With the Ethereum Name Service project, users convert NFT and other crypto assets into a short and more easily memorable link, rather than using machine-readable alphanumeric codes.

The Ethereum Name Service works with a structure similar to the Domain Name System (DNS). In the DNS working system, IP addresses that are long and difficult to remember are converted into URLs that are easier to remember. The Ethereum Name Service also organizes the addresses in the Ethereum blockchain in a more memorable way, just like in the DNS system.
